                                        Fall 2015 Programs

(Grades 1-8) Mondays & Tuesdays, 4:00 - 6:00 pm starting September 1.
  Bright Futures Scholarship students will be at the library to tutor and assist students with their homework. Tutoring is provided first come, first served. Check in at the Children's Reference Desk.

***NEW*** Stories & Art: (Grades 2-5) Tuesday, September 8 & October 6, 4:00 pm. Have fun learning about a new artist or stylistic period each month then create your own art in that style! September's class will focus on Impressionism and the artist Monet. All art materials have been funded the Friends of the Library. Registration required.

***NEW*** Sunshine State Book Club: (Grades 3-5) Thursday, September 10 & October 8, 3:30 pm. Every month we will discuss two Sunshine State books from the 2015-2016 list. This month's titles: Athlete vs Mathlete by W.C. Mack and Blast Off! Alien in My Pocket by Nate Ball.

Wee Discoveries: (Ages 2-5) Thursday, September 17 & October 22, 11:00 am. Play with age appropriate discovery stations designed to encourage creativity in learing with STEM goals in mind. Adult participation required.

Starlite Puppet Show - Mashenka and the Bear: (Ages 10 and under) Saturday, September 19, 10:30 am. Professional Puppeteer, Connie Mason, weaves a creative story with puppets and live music. This month she shares a delightful Folk Tale woven with authentic Russian children's songs.

Puppets & PJ's:
(Ages 8 and under) Tuesday, September 29, 7:00 pm. Come in your pajamas and snuggle down with your favorite blanket or stuffed animal for 30 minutes of stories and a fun puppet show.

Robotics: (Grades 2-5) Wednesday, September 30, 4:00 pm. Join instructors from Sylvan Learning Academy for a fun STEM class using LEGO bricks to create and program robots! Registration required.

Book-a-Trip- India: (Ages 4-10) Saturday, October 3, 11:00 am. Explore the country of India through pictures, crafts, games and delicious Indian food! Registration required.

Coderdojo- Teaching Kids to Code: (Ages 7-17) Six week course beginning Mondays, October 5, 12, 19, 26, November 2 and 9, 4:30-5:30 pm.
Learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and explore technology in an informal and creative environment led by local software professional. Registration will open on Friday, September 11 and a link will be available on this page.

Florida Orchestra Instrument Petting Zoo: (Ages 4-9) Wednesday, October 7, 4:00 pm.
Children can see, touch, hear, and play the instruments of the orchestra.

Preschool Halloween Party: (Ages 5 and under) Wednesday, October 28, 10:30 am. Join us for spooky stories, songs, games, snacks, a monster mash parade, and other fun activities. Come dressed in your Halloween costume!

Harry Potter Halloween Party: (All ages) Saturday, October 31, 1:00 - 3:00 pm. Come dressed as your favorite Harry Potter book character as we enjoy crafts, games and themed food.

Toddler Story Time: (Ages 19 months - 3 years) Mondays, 10:30 - 11:15am. Young ones will be introduced to language and literature as they listen to nursery rhymes and stories, sing songs, and do finger-plays. A simple craft or coloring sheet is offered after story time.

Preschool Story Time:
(Ages 2 -6 years) Wednesdays, 10:30 - 11:15am. Your preschooler will develop listening and early literacy skills while participating in an interactive story time with books, songs, and dance. A make-and-take craft is offered after story time.

Baby & Me Story Time: (Ages birth -18 months) Fridays, 10:00 - 10:30am. Enjoy special bonding time with your baby, listen to a few simple stories, sing songs to your baby, do finger-plays, knee bouncers, bubble time and end with a play session!

September Crafternoon: Air Dry Clay!
 (Ages 4-10), Wednesday, September 15, 3:30 pm. Each child can make a unique clay creation with Miss Sue. Choose from animals, cartoon characters, fake sweets and more. All supplies are included and sponsored by the Friends of the Library! Registration is required.

October Crafternoon: Paint a Pumpkin! (Ages 4-10), Wednesday, October 20, 3:30 pm.  Celebrate the fall season by painting a pumpkin. (Pumpkin and supplies included) Registration required.

Wee Sing:
(Ages 1-5) Tuesdays at 10:00 am. This program incorporates foreign and sign languages, music instruments, songs and more! Sign-up for September programs begins on Wednesday, August 26 at 9:30 am.

Story Yoga: (Ages 3-9) Tuesday, September 1, 4:00 pm. Kids can enjoy fun animal and nature poses, partner games, songs, interactive stories, music and movement! Please bring a mat or towel and wear stretchy clothes.
 
Preschool Yoga: (Ages 2-5) Thursday, October 15, 11:15 am.
Little ones can enjoy yoga through a story, games and music!

Kids' Yoga Dance: (Ages 10 & under) Thursday, September 24 & October 22, 4:00 pm.
Yoga meets dance in this fun, new program with instructor, Miss Mei. Parents and caregivers are welcome to partipate, but not required. Parents with babies in baby slings are welcomed too!

Lego League:
(Ages 3 years and up) Saturdays, all day and 3:00 - 4:30 pm the fourth Wednesday of the month. Bring your friends and join us for creative building with Legos. Try our building challenge of the week for a chance to win a prize!

 Zumba Kids: (Ages 4-10) Wednesday, September 23 & October 28, 4:00 pm.  Boys and Girls are invited to Shake, Wiggle, and Giggle during this crazy cool dance fitness program. Kids will be introduced to World Rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Reggaeton, Hip-hop and more. Parents love Zumba Kids because it increases their child’s focus, self-confidence, coordination, and metabolism, and kids love it because it’s FUN!

Game On! @ the Library:
(Ages 5-12) Wednesday, September 16 & October 21, 3:30-4:45  Come for an afternoon of Wii Games and board games. Enjoy some of the following games Wii Games: Just Dance, Mario Cart, Wii Resort Sports, and many more or bring your own rated E for Everyone game. Play board games like Apples to Apples, Pictionary, Candyland, Uno, and many others. Bring a friend and have some fun!

Children's Movie: (Ages 12 & under)
Wednesday, September 9, 3:30 pm.
Join us for Strange Magic, a tale of goblins, elves, fairies and imps and their misadventures sparked by the battle over a powerful magic potion.

Wednesday, October 14, 3:30 pm. Watch the original Hotel Transylvania at the library for free before catching the sequel in the theaters!

Free popcorn and lemonade provided!

Paw-some Readers:
A Dog is a READER’S Best Friend! These dogs are specially trained to listen patiently while a child practices reading and gains more confidence. Each reader will earn a Pawsome Reader Certificate!

Read to Max: Thursday, August 20 & September 17,  5:00 pm.
Meet our newest therapy dog, Max, the poodle!  He can't wait to meet all the kid's and helping them practice their reading skills! Bow-wow!
 
Read to Oliver!: Friday, August 21 & September 18,  3:00 pm.
Oliver, the super fuzzy Spitz, is a calm, experienced and adorable therapy dog trained by Therapy Dogs, International. Oliver looks forward to meeting all the kid's and helping them practice their reading skills! Woof!

Read to Tucker: Sunday, August 30, 2:00 pm. Meet our newest Pawsome Reader dog, Tucker the Goldendoodle from Project Pup! He's a dog-gone good listener! Ruff!

Children’s Sign Language Course:
(Ages 4-12) Classes will be held on Mondays at 4:30 pm. ASL course that includes Sign Language vocabulary, stories and crafts or activities for children. Call the Deaf Services Office at 727-724-1525 extension 4120 to register.

Infant/Toddler Sign Language Course: (ages 0-3) Classes will be held on Thursdays at 10:30 am.
  These fun and interactive signing classes will teach you how to include signs naturally while interacting with your child through daily routines, playtime, story time and music.
