Library Lovers' Month Gallery of Book Art

February 1 - 28, 2015
Library lovers are invited to create a fantasy art piece celebrating the love of books and libraries during the month of February.  Entries can be created in any form, from bookends to sculptures to wearable art, and must include materials from used books.  Imagination begins with libraries and ends with you!  First place winner will receive a Kindle Fire HDEntry form can be found here.

2015 Chair-ity Fundraiser
The Safety Harbor Library Foundation is seeking artists of all ages and anyone creative to donate and decorate a chair of any type for their Chair-ity Fundraiser scheduled for Friday, April 17 in conjunction with National Library Week.  Finished chairs will be on display in the library March 20 through April 17.  Chairs are due back on or before Friday, March 20.  For more information visit the Foundation's website.

Tim Dorsey's Shark Skin Suite Tour --Kickoff Event: Tuesday, January 27, 7:00 pm.  Meet local and best selling author, Tim Dorsey, for the debut of his newest Serge Storms thriller, Shark Skin Suite.  Books will be available for sale and signing.

International Japanese Guitarist: Tuesday, February 3, 6:30 pm.  Hiroya Tsukamoto is a guitarist and composer from Kyoto, Japan.  He received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music, and has performed internationally with his group Blue Note.  Hiroya has developed a unique acoustic music which is described as "new folkloric music". 

Birds in Classical Music: Thursday, February 5, 6:30 pm.  Join Lynn Sumerson of Clearwater Audubon Society as he demonstrates how, why and by whom birds were used as themes in classical music using brief examples with musical accompaniments.

Safety Harbor International Film Series:  Sunday, February 15, 1:30 pmLike Water For Chocolate (1992).  A love affair and passion expressed through the preparation of delectable dishes.  Rated R.

Swing with us and jazz vocalist Christiana Drapkin and her dynamic band on a joyous romp through Jazz Standards with a special nod to some of the greatest female vocalists of all time!  Enjoy music of hot scatters Ella Fitzgerald, Annie Ross, and Anita O'Day; soulful songstresses Billie Holiday, Sara Vaughn, and Carmen McRae; and cool practitioners of the craft like Peggy Lee and Blossom Dearie.

Words & Wine Book Club: Monday, February 16, 6:30 pm.  Join us for our book club held at Whistle Stop Bar and Grill, 915 Main Street. SCORE: Small Business Counseling: Tuesdays, January 27 and February 10 & 24.  Appointments available from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.  Free and confidential small business advice. Sign Up Online.

Creative Writers Group & Story Circle: Wednesday, February 18, 6:00 pm.  Facilitators Jan Golden and Sheila McNaughton provide lessons, suggestions for topics, and gentle feedback.  This group writes, shares, and encourages each other to preserve their life experiences.

ESOL Conversation Club: Tuesdays, January 27 and February 3, 10, 17, & 24 , 4:00-5:30 pm.  Join others in an informal setting and practice your English conversation skills.  Different topics of discussion will be covered each week to help you learn how to communicate in every day situations.

Tobacco Free Florida - Tools to Quit: Saturday, February 21, 10:00 am.  This smoking cessation program provides guidance on preparing a quitting plan, end cravings, discusses physical and emotional symptoms, and provides free cessation products.  Registration required.
