Safety Harbor Stories
Safety Harbor Stories_thumb.png
Safety Harbor Stories is a project that aims to collect the history of our city through stories told by former and current Safety Harbor residents. We hope to have an archive that we will be able to share with future generations to remind them of where our city came from and how it got to where it is today.

By collecting these stories, we are building bonds with past and current residents through shared memories, family connections and the pride that each person feels by being apart of our community.

Our collection of videos can be found here.

The Safety Harbor Public Library has currently has over 1000 pages of historic Safety Harbor Herald newspapers with scattered dates ranging from 1925 through 1989 preserved and accessible to the public. The newspapers are preserved and encapsulated in a Mylar sleeves.  Grant funding allowed the Library to complete this project.

In 2010, the Library was awarded a grant from the Pinellas Public Library Cooperative to further the project and preserve the Safety Harbor Herald collection.  The newspapers were digitized and can be found online via

Summer 2013, the Library received a donation of additional newspapers from the Safety Harbor Museum and Cultural Center.  The Library would like to add these to the digital collection to further preserve the history of Safety Harbor and the surrounding area.  This collection is valuable for local historians and anyone interested in the past. Grant opportunities are being investigated to further this project.
