Pen Pals Unite:

SHPL staff would like to inspire hope and decrease feelings of isolation in our community during these unsettled times. Staff writers would love to exchange cards and letters filled with inspiration, quotations, interesting articles, poetry, funnies or simply a kind hello to homebound local residents to brighten their day. Participants are welcome to write back or can participate by simply receiving inspirational cards or letters and can remain completely anonymous if they choose. A registration questionnaire form is required to enroll in the program. Scan the form and email it back to us or mail it via USPS. Letters will be sent to participants at least once a month. SHINE Seminars

Medicare Basics - Saturday September 18, 10:00 am-12:00 pm

Conducted by the specially trained volunteers of the SHINE program, this presentation will provide detailed information on the basics of the Medicare program. The presentation is an overview of the different parts of Medicare including Parts A and B, Medicare Advantage plans, Drug plans, Medicare supplement insurance and available financial assistance programs. SHINE volunteers will be available to answer questions and provide enrollment or benefit application assistance.

SHINE Medicare Open Enrollment - Saturday October 23, 2:00-4:00pm

Conducted by specially trained volunteers of the SHINE program, this presentation will provide detailed information on the Open Enrollment Period, which runs October 15th-December 7th.  During OEP Medicare beneficiaries can make changes to their Medicare Prescription Drug or Medicare Advantage Plans.

SHINE encourages beneficiaries to review their benefits each year for a variety of reasons. Individuals often experience subtle changes in their health during the course of the year, and these changes may alter the kind of care they need. This could directly affect their need for more or less health insurance, the types of prescription drugs they require or their access to particular doctors or pharmacies. Health changes can also increase costs, which can be critical for Medicare beneficiaries on fixed incomes. SHINE volunteers will be available to answer questions and provide enrollment or benefit application assistance.
